GableStage in the News

GableStage at the Biltmore, is proud to announce the first production of their 2009-2010 Season, the Southeastern Premiere of Neil LaBute's REASONS TO BE PRETTY, opening on October 24 and running through November 22.

This off-Broadway smash, which became one of the year's most acclaimed Broadway plays, is an edgy and darkly comic love story about the impossibility of love and the subjectivity of beauty. The author of This Is How It Goes and Fat Pig, both successes at GableStage, once again takes no prisoners, tackling the taboos and unspoken truths of contemporary American life.

Time Magazine exclaimed that Reasons to be Pretty is "the best new Broadway play of the season!" and The New York Times raved "A real love story! Mr. LaBute is writing some of the freshest and most illuminating American dialogue to be heard anywhere these days!"

Neil LaBute (playwright) is a critically acclaimed playwright, filmmaker and fiction writer. His controversial works include the plays The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig, Some Girl(s), Wrecks and In Dark, Dark House; the films In the Company of Men, Your Friends and Neighbors and the film version of The Shape of Things; and the short story collection Seconds of Pleasure.

The play features Amy Elane Anderson, Todd Allen Durkin, Erin Joy Schmidt and Ricky Waugh. Direction is by Joseph Adler, set design is by Lyle Baskin, lights are by Jeff Quinn, costumes are by Ellis Tillman, props are by Beth Fath and the stage manager is Kristen Pieski.
