JOSEPH ADLER (Director/Producing Artistic Director of GableStage) is starting his third season as Artistic Director of GableStage. Previously, he directed on many local stages, including Coconut Grove Playhouse, New Theatre, Area Stage, Hollywood Boulevard Theatre, Players Theatre, Ruth Foreman Theatre, Florida Shakespeare Theatre, City Theatre (Summer Shorts), Hollywood Playhouse and Shores Performing Arts. At GableStage he directed Skylight, Of Mice and Men, Full Gallop, Psychopathia Sexualis, Closer, Killer Joe, This is Our Youth, Arms and the Man, Side Man and Popcorn. Active in South Florida's film and theatre community for many years, Adler has directed hundreds of innovative television commercials and industrial films. His work has won many awards, including the Clio. Other directorial credits include several independent feature films, a video version of the Broadway hit comedy "Doubles", and a cable TV series. He has received ten nominations (most recently for Closer, Killer Joe an Popcorn at GableStage), and twice won the Carbonell Award for Best Director. He also received a Remy Award from the Theatre League for "Outstanding Contributions to South Florida Theatre." Adler studied Drama at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and graduated from the Film Department at New York University.


STEPHEN BELBER (Playwright) recently performed in the Off-Broadway show, The Laramie Project, for which he was also one of the three associate writers. The play is to be published by Vintage Press and is to be produced in several theaters around the country this year. Tape was produced as part of Humana Festival 2000, and was recently made into a film by the director, Richard Linklater, starring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Robert Sean Leonard. His other full-length plays have been produced and workshopped by New York Stage & Film, Second Stage, Soho Rep, Via Theater, Juilliard, Lincoln Center Living Room, Expanded Arts, Urban Stages and The 78th St.Theatre Lab. A new play, The Transparency of Val, was performed at The Trustus Theatre in Columbia, SC in August, and Drifting Elegant was recently produced in Boston at the New Repertory Theater. Belber has also written the book for the new rock musical, Sugar Mountain, which is to be produced next summer by Via Theater in New York. Belber is a graduate of Juilliard's Playwright's program. He has received two Le Comte du Nouy Foundation Grants, The Award for Excellence in Playwriting for New York's 2000 Fringe Festival (for Finally), and first place in Trustus Theater's New Playwrights Festival 2000 (for The Transparency of Val). Also as a playwright, Belber has been in residence at New York Stage & Film, Chautauqua and Juilliard. He is very happy to be working with Joseph Adler and GableStage.


RICH SIMONE (Set Design/Scenic Artist) is becoming one of the busiest theatrical artists in town. He has designed, stage managed or performed in a staggering number of productions in the past two seasons, and is looking forward to an equally busy upcoming year. GableStage audiences will remember Rich's sets for This is Our Youth and Popcorn, which garnered him a Carbonell Nomination for Best Set Design, and his set dressing for Killer Joe. Rich recently returned from performing in the Key West Theatre Festival, where he also designed two sets for the Waterfront Theatre. Locally he has designed sets and lights for The Singular Dorothy Parker, Tom-Tom on a Rooftop, Linsky Lane and O'Keefeat the Hollywood Boulevard Theatre; designed sets for Parallel Lives, The Comet's Tale, Same Time Next Year, The Eye of the Beholder and 2 ½ Jews at the Hollywood Playhouse; Dames at Sea and The Apple Tree (in which he also played Adam) at Shores Performing Arts Theatre; designed the set, props and was Production Stage Manager for Summer Shorts 2000 at the Ring Theatre; and performed in the box office record-breaking production of Pageant at the Red Barn Theatre in Key West. Rich would like to thank the South Florida theatre community for allowing him opportunities to express himself in all areas of the arts, the fabulous staff of GableStage for their support, and Jack for his patience.


MIKE MARTIN (Lighting Design) has worked with Miami Dade Community College since 1975. He has been a member of United Scenic Artists since 1979. Professional credits at Coconut Grove Playhouse include the lighting design for Cyrano de Bergerac and The Shadow Box (directed by Joseph Adler) for which he received a Carbonell Award. He was also nominated for a Carbonell for his lighting design of Shenandoah at the Burt Reynolds Dinner Theater and for Strange Snow at GableStage (when it was the Florida Shakespeare Theatre), where he also did the set and lighting design, and was Technical Director for Simpatico.


NATE RAUSCH (Sound Design) spends 87% of his time in very dark rooms, theatres and recording studios! Past sound designs include: The premiere of Arrivals and Departures at Area Stage/Oye Rep., Joseph, West Side Story and Big River at The Miracle Theatre, and 5 Women Wearing the Same Dress at Broward Center. Nate has also co-composed several musicals for young audiences, including: Princess and the Pea, Miranda and the Frog Prince, and Alice Underground. DANIELA SCHWIMMER (Costume Designer) has designed costumes for History of America (Abridged), Simpatico, Skylight, Of Mice and Men, Full Gallop, Psychopathia Sexualis, Closer (for which she was nominated for a Carbonell), Killer Joe, This is Our Youth and Side Man at GableStage. She was part of the costume crew at Actor's Playhouse for productions of Das Barbecu and She Loves Me. Daniela painted TV sets for Univision and Channel 2, assisted the costume designer on TNT's The Man Who Captured Eichmann with Robert Duvall. She has also assisted wardrobe for commercials and a TV channel in Argentina. Daniela worked in Alfredo's Atellier, a costume shop in Miami. She would like to thank her husband, Ricardo, for his love and support.


OSVALDO PALACIOS (Technical Director) has enjoyed an active career in film, television and theatre. He began his career in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he acted as director, dancer and choreographer. In South Florida, Palacios has worked for The Hispanic Theater League, Area Stage, FLA/BRA, Lenny Miller Productions, Channel 23, International Hispanic Theater Festival and La Salle High School in the capacity of stage manager, technical director, coordinator and teacher. He has been resident Technical Director at GableStage for the past two seasons.


PATIENCE SOBEL (Stage Manager) marks her eleventh production at GableStage with Tape. Patience has worked in many capacities for theatres in Arkansas, Florida, Michigan and New York City. Some of her favorite shows have been Idols of the King, The Old Settler, Cabaret, Sylvia, and of course, the shows at GableStage. Lots of love goes out to her family, friends, Bill "My Heart is a thumb!" and to her man, Michael.


DANIEL LEVAIN (Assistant Stage Manager) is marking his sixth show at GableStage, having worked as Assistant Stage Manager and Production Assistant throughout this season. He also appeared recently on stage in Helluva Halloween at the Miami Light Project. Daniel previously worked in Kansas City, where he developed a love for the theatre. Originally from Argentina, Daniel is pleased to be part of the crew at such "an exciting theater".


CAROLINA ASHMAN (Props) is a junior student in the Visual Arts Department at New World School of the Arts, where she designed costumes for Ur Faust, which traveled to Greece in 1999. She recently designed sets for Mad Cat's production of Helluva Halloween at Miami Light Project, Juggerknot theatre company, and Five Women Wearing the Same Dress at Nova University, as well as several independent films. Carolina was stage manager for Into the Woods at the Colony theatre and for The Here and Now Festival at Miami Light Project in 1998 and 1999. She did props for Popcorn, and was assistant props and wardrobe for Side Man at GableStage.
