CHAIM GRADE (1910-1982)
Author of "My Quarrel with Hersh Rasseyner", the story upon which the play THE QUARREL is based, was one of the foremost Yiddish writers of the modern era.
Born in Vilna, he attended both secular and religious schools, including a Nova-rodoker mussar yeshiva. After leaving the yeshiva world, in the early 1930s he developed a reputation as an author and poet in the "Young Vilna" group of ex-perimental artists. When the Germans invaded Vilna, Grade lost his first wife and his mother, but managed to escape to Russia until the end of the war. After re-marrying, he eventually settled in the USA in 1948.
His works include novels, novellas, short stories, and poetry: The Sacred and the Profane, The Aguna, The Yeshiva, Mayn Krig Mit Hersh Rassayner, Churbn, and dozens of others.
