ABOUT GABLESTAGE

With a mission to provide South Florida with theatrical productions of artistic excellence, GableStage challenges its multicultural audience with innovative productions that confront today’s issues and ideas. Under the leadership of the late Joe Adler, GableStage was at the heart of producing adventurous theatre in South Florida for 23 years. Now, under the leadership of new producing artistic director, Bari Newport, GableStage has embarked on its next chapter. In addition to furthering the GableStage legacy of excellence, Newport has been charged to scale-up the company. The company seeks a goal-oriented, ambitious collaborator to work with board, staff and community stakeholders to define and realize the company’s institutional goals and long-term vision. 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Reporting directly to the Producing Artistic Director, the Director of Development is responsible for planning, developing, organizing, and directing all GableStage fundraising efforts. This responsibility includes major gifts programs, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and campaigns. Above all, the Director of Development is charged with developing and executing a development plan that ensures GableStage continues to meet its core mission and artistic goals. The Director of Development is a leadership role, working closely with the Board and staff, to implement the strategies and initiatives that will position the company for considerable growth.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Fundraising and Development 

  • Strengthen and diversify the fundraising program by expanding GableStage’s donor base (corporate, individual, foundation, government)
  • Steward and retain current list of donors 
  • Build and oversee the implementation of an aspirational, achievable annual development plan
  • Meet and exceed fundraising goals, as determined annually during organizational budgeting
  • Use innovative strategies and creative ideas to identify and cultivate new prospects
  • Craft strategies to leverage GableStage’s current programs, activities and events to promote greater donor/sponsor and volunteer participation
  • Oversee the grant writing consultant in managing public and private grant initiatives
  • Build and implement an effective corporate development strategy
  • Oversee effective strategies for annual fund: direct mail, online giving, events, and new initiatives
  • Plan and execute annual fundraising and donor cultivation events, including annual gala, and upwards of 6 opening night receptions per season

Operations and Communications 

  • Maintain effective development systems and record-keeping procedures to track current and prospective donors and accurately report all fundraising income
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing to align development-related communications with the organizational brand and provide ongoing evaluation of key messaging as it relates to development 

Leadership and Outreach 

  • Work with the board, staff and other stakeholders to expand GableStage’s community presence through innovative and community-focused outreach activities
  • Represent the organization externally at events and meetings
  • Facilitate, engage, and support the Development Committee to meet fundraising goals
  • Develop a strategy to grow the fundraising department; lead and oversee the performance of direct reports as needed
  • Provide relevant feedback regarding programmatic enhancements and contribute to the organization’s planning processes

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 

The successful candidate will have: 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in non-profit fundraising
  • Keen proficiency across all Microsoft Office and Google applications
  • Passion for the arts
  • Success in securing major gifts, grants, and sponsorships, as well as achieving fundraising goals
  • Proven track record of successfully motivating and supporting board members and volunteers
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports 
  • Strategic thinker and persuasive communicator who understands the value of relationships
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in oral and written forms 
  • Highly organized, flexible, collaborative, motivated, and a fast learner
  • While exceptionally detail-oriented, can also focus on large concepts and strategic issues 
  • Able to navigate through diverse and sometimes competing priorities 
  • Familiarity with the Miami community and the local cultural and philanthropic landscape

START DATE

GableStage hopes to make its decision by June 2022 with the chosen candidate taking on the position shortly thereafter.
