ABOUT JESSICA PROVENZ, PLAYWRIGHT

Boca had its World Premiere at Barrington Stage Company in 2021, where it received seven Berkshire Theatre Critic nominations including Best New Play. Other productions and workshops include A Wake on Chappaquiddick (Cape Cod Theatre Project, New Georges, Irish Rep), True Art (Pioneer Theatre, Directors Company), Andromeda (The Barrow Group, Berkshire Playwrights Lab), Better than Chocolate (Juilliard). Jessica received commissions from The Araca Group, Killer Films and Barrington Stage and is a regular contributor to magazines, and wrote a feature for NY Magazine, about serving as Anthony Weiner’s Policy Director in his 2013 mayoral run. She was a 2021 Writer-in-Residence with Straw Dog Writer’s Guild at Edith Wharton’s The Mount. A two-time recipient of the Lecomte du Nouy Award for Emerging Playwrights, she received a B.S. from Northwestern University and was Artist-in-Residence at The Juilliard School. She lives in Lenox, MA with her 10 year old son, who laughs at all her jokes.

Beverly thanks Bari for this return to GableStage after Between Riverside and Crazy. You may have seen her in Helen on Wheels and Off Balance (Empire Stage), Dance Nation (Thinking Cap Theater), and Vincent River (Ground Up & Rising); with the Shakespeare Troupe of SoFlo, and at ImprovU. On screen, catch her in AppleTV’s Across the Rails, commercials (“I got $60,000.00!”), Black Pills’ Tycoon, & Netflix’ Nailed It! (season 3, ep 2), etc. In 2012, she retired her long Theatre Arts Educator career (last as Theatre Dean, Dreyfoos School of Arts) to train in Burt Reynolds’ master acting class, at Shakespeare’s Globe, and at Juilliard (prior: BA-FSU; MFA-FAU). She’s a Kravis Center Teaching Artist, an Educational Theatre Association Hall of Famer, and founding/emeritus member of Florida Association for Theatre Education. Barbara is thrilled to be making her Florida debut in Boca at GableStage. She recently co-starred in Reminiscence (Frances) with Hugh Jackman and iMordecai (Mrs. Campbell) with Judd Hirsch, Carol Kane and Sean Astin. NYC Theatre credits: (Off-Broadway) You’ve Got Hate Mail (Peg). Regional theatre credits: DC Gala Theatre: Real Women Have Curves (Carmen), Come Blow Your Horn (Mrs. Baker), Beau Jest (Miriam Goldman), Noises Off (Dotty Otley). Barbara has studied her craft at HB and T. Schreiber Studios in NYC. She taught Spanish for many years and is currently working as a voiceover artist in the English/Spanish markets. When not on stage, in front of the camera or behind a microphone, Barbara is in her community’s “aqua cardio class” and, along with her “spousal equivalent,” Bob, is an avid world traveler. Avi Hoffman* (Mo/Bruce)

Avi has been seen in several GableStage’s productions, including Joe Papp at the Ballroom, Indecent, My Name is Asher Lev and Address Unknown. He was nominated for a NY Drama Desk Award for his Yiddish language portrayal of Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman. He is best known for his Too Jewish Trilogy: Award winning one man shows Too Jewish? (PBS, Performer of the Year ’95 – NY Press Magazine; L.A. OVATION award – Best Actor In a Musical 2001; NY Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle award nominations), Too Jewish, Too! and his latest show Still Jewish After All These Years. On TV, he was featured as Sid Raskin in the Starz TV series Magic City, as well as on Netflix’ Bloodline, A&E’s The Glades and on the NBC series Law and Order. He is the founder of Yiddishkayt Initiative (www.YILoveJewish.org

Deborah Kondelik*# (Janet/Iris)

Deborah is thrilled to be performing at GableStage! Some of Deborah’s favorite roles include Emily in Reborning (Arts Garage), Margot in The Ladies Foursome (Pigs Do Fly Productions), Lorraine Sheldon in The Man Who Came to Dinner (Ring Theater), the blind Susi Hendrix in Wait Until Dark (Ruth Foreman Theater), Susannah in Bedroom Farce and Mollie in The Mousetrap (Oakland West Dinner Theater). Deborah had featured acting roles on Miami Vice and stunt performance roles on Caribe. She was a spokesperson for Burger King, Ford Motor Company, Eastern Airlines, and Hav-a-Tampa. Deborah performed in feature films with Terence Hill, Ernest Borgnine, Jackie Mason and Cliff Robertson. She retired from a long academic career as a Professor of Theatre where she received a “Professor of the Year” award, numerous directing awards, and three Endowed Teaching Chair awards. She is a proud mother/grandmother of three children, seven grandchildren, two kitties, and two pups.

Robert Zukerman* (Marty/Robbie/Stan

Robert is pleased to make his GableStage debut. He’s done two dozen shows Off Broadway at such theatres as Irish Rep, the Atlantic, CSC, the Pearl, Theatre for a New Audience, etc. Regional credits include Arena Stage, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, Penguin Rep, Triad Stage (NC), Gretna Theatre (PA), Blackfriars Theatre (where he won a San Diego Critics Circle Award for playing Finkelbaum in The Puppetmaster of Lodz), and 16 shows at Barrington Stage (where he won a best supporting actor award from the Berkshire Theatre Critics Association). He’s performed in radio (Coriolanus for WBAI-FM in NYC), television (Renaissance Gardening for Rhode Island PBS), and film (In Bed With Ulysses), toured for the USO (USAF bases in Greenland), danced for Jacques d’Amboise, narrated for the Library of Congress, and served as Theatre Program Director for the New York State Council on the Arts.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR, JULIANNE BOYD

Julianne is the co-founder (1995) and Artistic Director of the Barrington Stage Company (Pittsfield, MA) where she has directed many productions, including the 2018 critically acclaimed productions of West Side Story and the 2017 hit production of Company starring Aaron Tveit.  She also directed the world premiere of Christopher Demos-Brown’s American Son, which won the Laurents-Hatcher Award for Best New Play of 2016 and later moved to Broadway.  Other productions Boyd directed include the world premieres of Mark St. Germain’s Dancing Lessons, Dr. Ruth, All the Way and Best of Enemies, the critically acclaimed revival of Goldman and Sondheim’s Follies and BSC’s smash hit production of Cabaret, which transferred to the Hasty Pudding Theatre in Cambridge, MA. Boyd conceived and directed the Broadway musical Eubie!, based on the music of Eubie Blake which starred Gregory Hines and garnered three Tony nominations. She also co-conceived and directed (with Joan Micklin Silver) the award-winning Off Broadway musical revue A…My Name Is Alice (Outer Critics’ Award) and its sequel A…My Name Is Still Alice.From 1992 to 1998 Ms. Boyd served as President of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers, the national labor union representing professional directors and choreographers in the U.S.
